Can

$1,425.00
sold out

Before the automobile, travel in the arid regions of this country was by horse and camel, in strings that were drawn out behind a lead rider. The soft pad of a dromedary foot on sand or the clomp of a horses' hoof were often the only accompaniment to the slosh of water in a can and the creak and shift of leather on beast over long hours of travel.

Can has been inspired by a ubiquitous piece of gear from this age -  the horses' watercan – and realised using the vocabulary and materials of saddlery.

A full grain bridle leather has been employed in combination with saddlers hardware to produce a bag of high function and durability, predominantly hand stitched using hand-rolled linen thread. A traditional strap and staple closure affords security between destinations and a simplicity of function on arrival.

Can is the perfect sized overnight bag for your dress shoes, shaving kit and a change of clothes. A single internal pocket provides for documents.

Ordering:

Each bag is handmade to order by James B Young in his Alice Springs workshop. Please allow up to 6 weeks for the delivery of your bag from the time of purchase.

Materials
Outer: Bridle leather (vegetable tanned 2.5mm thick)
Internal pockets Kangaroo leather (vegetable tanned)
Hardware: solid copper saddlers' rivets and solid brass standup staples

Dimensions

380 x 330 x 260mm

Care instructions available on request

Shoemaker and Outfitter Alice Springs - bespoke shoes and boots - handcrafted luxury leather goods - made to order kangaroo leather bags and wallets - made to measure belts - handmade in outback Australia.

James B. Young lives and works on the unceded lands of the Arrernte nation in Mparntwe Alice Springs, and pays respects to elders, past, present and future.

He acknowledges the generations of First Nations people who worked without pay as stockmen and women in the Northern Territory, often on their own lands. He celebrates their craftsmanship, ingenuity and resilience: a heritage that continues to define and inspire Australian leatherwork.
